Columbia’s Matt Williams, who typically plays shortstop and was pitching for the first time this season, worked a no-hitter into the fifth inning as the Blowfish (8-11, 20-27) cruised 7-1 past the Wilson Tobs (13-8, 31-18) at Capital City Stadium on Friday.
The Blowfish won for the eigth time in their past 11 games. Williams pitched seven innings and allowed one run on two hits, walking two while striking out one — although he hit fivebatters.
Wilson’s Gar Keen drove a one-out double down the right field line to break up Williams’ no-hit bid.
Columbia’s Chase Pickering pitched two scoreless innings to end the game, allowing one hit while striking out one and walking one.
