At Wilmington, N.C., Columbia hung on to defeat the Wilmington Sharks 9-5 Wednesday night behind a strong pitching effort by shortstop Matt Williams and solid offensive nights from Williams, Taylor Black and Nick Orvin.
Williams started for the second time this season. He was not as effective as his last effort, but picked up the win by allowing three runs in 6 2/3 innings.
After being stymied through five innings, the Blowfish broke through with three runs in the sixth. Orvin drew a lead-off walk, then moved to second when Williams singled. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and scored when Brison Celek hit a two-run single. Celek scored on a Branfy Arias double.
