Dorman offensive lineman Patrick DeStefano became the third major instate prospect to declare his college choice Monday when he announced for Clemson.
DeStefano chose the Tigers over offers from USC, Penn State, Stanford, Tennessee, North Carolina, Arkansas, Florida State, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and others.
Clemson was long thought to be his favorite, and he confirmed that with his announcement made at the Dorman High School football stadium press box.
"I love Clemson," he said.
DeStefano added that he firmed up his decision on a plane trip home from a visit to Penn State on March 12.
"I love Penn State and it's a great school, but it doesn't compare to Clemson," he said.
DeStefano's father played in the NFL and his coach says he has good football traits.
"He plays as hard as any player I've had at Dorman," said Dave Gutshall.
DeStefano plans to graduate from high school in December and enroll at Clemson in January. He's the Tigers fourth commitment for 2012 and the second on the offensive line.
