Manziel maintains lead
Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel continues to lead The State’s weekly Heisman Trophy poll. After a huge game in a comeback win against Ole Miss, Manziel, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner, stayed on top for the fifth consecutive week among the panel’s 13 Heisman voters with seven first-place votes.
Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, who received five first-place votes, moved past Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd into the second spot with a strong effort in leading the Ducks to a win against Washington.
Boyd, who dropped to third, will have a showdown this weekend at Clemson against Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, who placed fourth. The Top 5 matchup also applies to the two teams, No. 3 Clemson and No. 5 FSU.
