Mariota, Winston make big moves
There’s a new leader atop The State’s weekly Heisman Trophy poll.
Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, who garnered seven first-place votes among the poll’s 13 voters, jumped into the top spot after a strong showing in a win against Washington State. Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston also made a significant move after a spectacular performance against Clemson.
Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, who had occupied first place the previous five weeks, fell to third after the Aggies were upset by Auburn. Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd dropped from third to ninth after a poor performance against FSU.
Quarterbacks hold eight of the first 10 spots, with USC’s Mike Davis the first running back listed in the poll at No. 6.
