Clemson recruiting story lines for National Signing Day

The McDonough, Ga., four-star defensive end has kept a lively log of his recruiting experience on Twitter.

At least three top prospects will keep the Clemson coaches’ attention on National Signing Day:

1. ANDREW WILLIAMS

The McDonough, Ga., four-star defensive end has kept a lively log of his recruiting experience on Twitter.

But now it’s down to the nitty-gritty, and he talked about his decision-making process on Fox Sports recently.

“Obviously I have to (decide),” Williams said. “I can’t please everybody. It’s kind of a selfish decision. I’ve established a great relationship with each of the coaches. It’s going to be hard regardless saying bye (to them). I’m not trying to burn any bridges, but then again it’s my decision and my family’s decision. It’s going to be hard, but I’m ready for it.”

Williams’ priorities in making his choice aren’t all tied to the football field.

“I’m relentless. I want to be great,” he said. “Great education, that’s first. Great coaching staff and a school that’s going to help me develop as a man and not just a football player.”

Clemson and Auburn have been the clear one-two for a while, but Georgia has made a late push.

2. RICHARD YEARGIN III

Yeargin III, a four-star DE/OLB, was a Notre Dame commit through 2013 until a couple weeks ago. It appeared he had pulled the trigger on a Clemson commit, but he’s waiting until signing day to announce his pick.

3. CORY THOMAS

Thomas, a three-star DL, is kind of in the situation Clemson safety Korrin Wiggins was last year, as a commit of another school leaning Tigers. Thomas has gone as far as saying Clemson was his leader after a recent official visit. He finds himself in a crowded Tennessee class of 34 — one of seven defensive linemen. If Thomas signs with Clemson, he would join Jabril Robinson (three-star DT) and Chris Register (moving from LB to DE) among new Tiger linemen.
