Steve Wilkerson hit a three-run homer in the first inning, and Chris Okey added a two-run shot in the fifth as No. 20 Clemson swept a doubleheader Friday with a 7-1 win over Maryland at Bob Smith Stadium.
Matthew Crownover (5-2) scattered four hits in his first career complete game for the Tigers (17-9, 8-3 ACC).
Maryland starter Mike Shawaryn (5-1) suffered his first loss of the year.
The Tigers totaled 13 hits in the contest, as Wilkerson led the way by going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a homer and three RBIs.
In the opener, Shane Kennedy went 4-for-4 with a homer, including the go-ahead, run-scoring triple in the ninth inning to lift Clemson to a 3-1 victory.
Kennedy’s solo homer in the second was the game’s lone run until pinch-hitter Michael Montville hit a solo shot in the eighth inning to tie the score. But Kennedy came through with a triple in the ninth to score Steve Wilkerson and later came home on Jay Baum’s sacrifice fly.
Daniel Gossett (3-0) struck out six over 8 innings for Clemson. Matt Campbell tossed a perfect ninth for his fifth save.
Clemson will look for the sweep of the Terrapins (16-8, 5-6 ACC) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
