DL Gage Cervenka (6-3 265) of Emerald, a three time state wrestling champion, is still wrestling with a college decision despite landing an offer Wednesday from Clemson, his lifetime favorite school. Cervenka was offered Thursday by Miami and also has offers from Wake Forest, Duke and NC State.
"I wouldn't put it as a slam dunk but they are definitely high up on my list as growing up as a Clemson fan," said Cervenka who will make his decision before his season. "I'd probably put them at the top right now, but I'm still waiting on an SEC offer. Every high school football player wants to be able to play for a big SEC team. I'm just looking around and we'll see what happens but Clemson is definitely high up there."
Cervenka would like to hear from Georgia and Tennessee. What about USC? "I'm not the biggest fan of South Carolina," he said. 'I've been up there for one game but I haven't really seen the whole thing at South Carolina so I can't really throw them out there and just say no completely because I don't know what they have to offer." He does get mail from USC.
Cervenka visited Wake Forest last week and was at NC State last Saturday, and he will visit Virginia Tech this Saturday.
Wednesday he was at Clemson, his first chance to see the school as a recruit. He attended practice and spent time with defensive line coach Dan Brooks and talked to defensive coordinator Brent Venables.
"I watched them practiced and watched their steps and tools that they use that I could use to finish up my career in high school," he said. Cervenka said once wrestling is over he'll get back up to around 280 pounds which will allow him to play inside, but he added he could grow a couple of more inches which could make him a defensive end.
