DB Maurice Smitherman of Mobile, AL will announce his college decision next Wednesday or Thursday and his decision is down to Clemson and Mississippi State.
"They are about even right now," Smitherman said. "Me and my mom are talking about it."
Smitherman visited Clemson for the final home game of last season and that left a strong impression on him.
"I liked how much spirit their fans have and it's a good academic school," he said. "I love what Dabo Swinney is doing. I know they need corners and they need shut down corners. And in the return game, I know Sammy Watkins left so I can come in contribute right away."
Smitherman said the key factor in his decision is where he feels he can play early.
"Where I can come in and get on the field, that's my main thing," Smitherman said. "I just want to get on the field and make an early impact. I know nothing will be given to me. I will have to work hard, but I know how to work hard."
Smitherman visited Mississippi State for a junior day earlier this year and has developed a strong relationship with the Bulldog's secondary coach.
"I really love coach Townsend and we have a good relationship," he said. "He's telling me I could be in their rotation."
With his two finalists, Townsend has a clear choice between the SEC and the ACC as well.
"My family wants me to play in the SEC," he said, "but I feel I can go anywhere and make an impact. You know Florida State beat an SEC team in the national championship game."
Smitherman said he will put his decision on Twitter once it's made sometime in the middle of next week.
