Clemson a favorite of Byrnes offensive lineman

OL John Guthrie grew up a Clemson fan.

Junior OL John Guthrie (6-3 295) of Byrnes has visited Georgia Tech twice and is showing a lot of interest in the Yellow Jackets. He said that he is confident an offer could come in the near future.

"I think they're showing me the most interest, Guthrie said. "I like the school and the education they can provide."

His next visit to Atlanta will be to see Georgia Tech host Clemson. Though he is interested in the Jackets, Guthrie admitted that Clemson is likely his favorite.

"I grew up a Clemson fan," he said. "They're my childhood favorite. It's a good school and it's close to home."

The Tigers have shown interest along with NC State and North Carolina. Guthrie said NC State is another school showing a lot of interest.

"I think they'll offer me too," he said. "I like the area, the campus and the facilities. It's a good school."

He has heard some from USC but said the evaluation process is ongoing.

"I've talked to coach (Shawn) Elliott some and he told me to keep working and that he is keeping an eye on me," Guthrie said.

Other than Georgia Tech, he does not have any visits scheduled.
