Clemson has new competition for DB Mark Fields Jr. of Cornelius, NC and USC appears to be out of the picture with their former commitment. Fields is in San Antonio for the Army All American Game though he can't play due to a hand injury. Friday afternoon he tweeted he had picked up an offer from LSU which he referred to as his "dream school."
In a follow up interview at the game site with Ryan Bartow of 247Sports, Fields said he had scheduled an official visit to LSU for January 16th. That was the date he previously had set for Clemson. He now has Clemson down for January 30th. In between those two visits he plans to visit Texas January 23rd.
Fields did not mention USC in the article. It is still possible he could visit the Gamecocks. He had a trip to Columbia scheduled for January 23rd. At the time of his decommitment, Fields said the door was still cracked for the Gamecocks but he felt it best to look elsewhere because of his concern regarding the future of the coaching staff.
