Nine players from either Clemson or South Carolina have been invited to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Each player spends four days at the combine, held Feb. 24-March 2, for what amounts to an extensive job interview. The athletes undergo a multitude of physical drills and personal interviews. Representatives from all 32 teams will be on hand to evaluate players for April's draft.
Invited from Clemson are running back C.J. Spiller, receiver Jacoby Ford, defensive end Ricky Sapp, linebacker Kavell Conner and cornerbacks Chris Chancellor and Crezdon Butler. USC invitees are linebacker Eric Norwood, safety Darian Stewart and defensive end Clifton Geathers.
The Citadel receiver Andre Roberts and Appalachian State quarterback Armanti Edwards of Greenwood also are invited.
Never miss a local story.
Selections are determined by an anonymous committee comprised of directors from two major scouting services and members from various NFL personnel departments. All eligible players are reviewed and voted on, and those receiving enough votes at each position are invited.
