Seminar to cover USC-Clemson football rivalry

Registrations are now being taken for "Back to Big Thursday," a three-part classroom series chronicling the history of the South Carolina-Clemson football rivalry.

A joint project of USC and SCETV, the sessions will at 7-8:30 p.m. April 15, 22 and 29.

The first session will cover the origin of the rivalry in the late 19th century and how it progressed through the 1920s. Part two will look at the 1930s, the 1940s and 1950s. The final session will examine the rivalry after Big Thursday was discontinued.

Vintage game-day footage and rare archive photos will help tell the story. Also, some of those who were a part of the rivalry will share their memories.

Doug Nye, former Columbia Record sports editor and one-time TV sports writer for The State, will lead the "Back to Big Thursday" sessions. Cost for the three-night event is $49. For more information go or call 777-9401.
