Texans owner (and USC alum) talks about drafting Clemson star

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair, a USC alum, has only one Clemson player on his roster -- his first-round draft pick this year, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

“I told him that he knew he had to be really good for me to draft somebody from Clemson,” McNair told GoGamecocks.com on Thursday.

The Texans doubled up on their number of Gamecocks by drafting safety D.J.. Swearinger in the second round this year.

He joins two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Johnathan Joseph on the Houston roster to give USC a 2-to-1 edge in the locker room over the Tigers.

But now that they have a Clemson teammate, McNair -- who donated $30 million to his alma mater for a scholarship program bearing his family name -- offered a friendly warning to his USC players.

“I kid them all the time and tell them, ‘Don’t let Hopkins taint you,’ ”McNair said.
