The Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission has been selected as the host of the 2014 and 2015 USTA Southern Jr. Team Tennis Sectional Championships, tournament director Mary Hatfield said.
The tournament will be played at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center, Lexington County Tennis Complex and Ball Park Road Sports Complex. The dates are Aug. 15-17, 2014, and Aug. 21-23, 2015.
The USTA announced that the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center last month received the USTA’s highest tennis facility honor, being named the 2013 Featured Facility Award winner.
“Great tennis facilities like the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center help us to grow the game at the grassroots level, and we are proud to recognize them for their ongoing impact on the sport of tennis,” said Kurt Kamperman, chief executive of Community Tennis, USTA.
In 2003, the Lexington County Tennis Complex received the USTA Facility of the Year Award for Large Facilities. It also received Racquet Sports Industry magazine’s 2004 Municipal Facility of the Year Award.
“We are extremely proud to bring our annual junior team tennis championships to three great locations in Lexington County,” Hatfield said. “We know that Jorge Andrew and his team will be a great host for our growing three-day tournaments.”
Andrew is director of tennis for the Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission.
Approximately 63 teams from throughout Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee are expected to play each year.
