Ridge View 6-foot-11, 2018 center Malcolm Wilson was offered by Clemson a few weeks ago and Thursday he visited with the Tigers for a closer look. Wilson also has offers from SC State and Hampton and is drawing interest from USC. But Thursday his focus was on meeting with Brad Brownell and getting more comfortable with him and his staff.
"Things at Clemson were great," Wilson said. "I was very pleased with the staff and feel like we are creating a good relationship. I'm very grateful for them extending a scholarship offer to me."
Wilson said he got the chance to check out all things Clemson from the academic side, which is big for him since he's a 4.0 student, as well as the athletic side. And he learned exactly how the Clemson staff feels about him.
"I saw the entire campus," he said. "Academic halls, athletic buildings, and living areas. Coach Smith and Coach Brownell explained how important character was to them and that I checked all the boxes in the person column. As a player they showed me clips of their big men on offense and showed clips of me on offense to show that the way they use their players is similar to the way I play."
Wilson is still a developing big man who averaged 4 points, 5 blocks and 6 rebounds per game last season, but basketball people feel he has a big upside.
Sunday he is scheduled for a visit to USC.
