The Clemson football program went nearly 34 years between appearances on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
Now quarterback Deshaun Watson is on the popular magazine’s cover for the second time in less than a month.
Watson, who on Tuesday evening was announced as one of three finalists for the 2015 Heisman Trophy, will appear on the cover of the Dec. 14 issue of the magazine, which will hit newsstands on Wednesday.
The record-setting sophomore quarterback was previously featured on a regional cover of the magazine on Nov. 16.
Never miss a local story.
Watson has guided Clemson to a 13-0 record this season and is 17-1 as the Tigers’ starter over the last two seasons. Clemson, the lone remaining undefeated team in the nation, was the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff rankings released on Sunday and will face No. 4 seed Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl in Miami Gardens, Florida, on New Year’s Eve.
Watson, of Gainesville, Georgia, has passed for 3,572 yards and 30 touchdowns this season while also rushing for 887 yards and 11 scores.
