Sun Valley (N.C.) standout Jody Fuller has produced numbers against two of the state’s best teams, but it hasn’t been enough to produce wins.
Fuller, a USC commitment, has seen his team lose in consecutive weeks to open the season. First, there was a 70-28 loss to Class AAAA state powerhouse Richmond County (N.C.), and then there was Friday’s 52-21 loss to Class AAAA’s Mallard Creek (N.C.). Richmond is ranked fourth and Mallard Creek is No. 1 in maxpreps.com’s state rankings.
It’s been a rough start for Fuller and Co., especially coming off last year’s 10-3 campaign.
“It’s been tough so far, but I believe we’re going to get right and play strong the rest of the way,” Fuller said. He believes the quality of the Spartans’ early schedule will help them down the road.
Never miss a local story.
Fuller has produced big numbers so far.
In the opener, he caught six passes for 75 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 76 yards and two scores. In Friday’s loss to nationally ranked Mallard Creek, he caught four passes for 56 yards and a touchdown and rushed twice for 18 yards, scoring on a 19-yard reverse.
Sun Valley hosts Garinger (N.C.) this Friday.
