Joey Pankake is making the most of his position change this season.
The South Carolina junior third baseman was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team this week after eight errors and a fielding percentage of .932 for the season. That's down from 17 errors as the USC shortstop last season.
He is batting .307 with five home runs and 29 RBIs. He and Grayson Greiner lead the team with 27 walks each.
The Gamecocks host the NCAA Columbia regional this weekend. They’ve won all 16 NCAA tournament games played at Carolina Stadium in the ballpark’s six-year history.
Never miss a local story.
Pankake cites a proven toughness in big games.
“The experience is definitely going to help us,” he said.
