South Carolina finished No. 8 in the annual Best in College Sports report released on Wednesday.

The Gamecocks were the highest among SEC schools. LSU was No. 9, while Texas A&M was 13th and Kentucky finished 15th.

Stanford, Michigan State and Louisville made up the top three. Click here to view the full report .

The ranking uses a formula that factors in a school's success in football, baseball, men's and women's basketball, as well as one wildcard sport among softball, men's lacrosse, men's ice hockey, men's soccer, wrestling, women's soccer or women's gymnastics.

According to CBS, the report "is more reflective of those sports that generate the broadest base of fan and media interest."

Football and women's basketball generated the most toward USC's No. 8 ranking. The report doesn't list which wildcard sport was used for the Gamecocks, but USC's women's soccer team advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament and finished the season ranked No. 15.
