Steve Spurrier lit the fire under some injured players that were apparently not doing what they were supposed to with good results. Jadeveon Clowney and Damiere Byrd are back at practice and out of the doghouse.
But Bruce Ellington remains out, and I can say with certainty that he’s not sandbagging. You can suspect anybody but that kid.
An athlete who thought nothing of playing basketball, hopping a red-eye and then practicing football at a bowl site seven hours away is battling a pulled hamstring and dying to be out there with his teammates. Some players are “gamers,” Ellington is the rare player that loves to practice as much as he plays.
There are still two weeks until the first game, so it’s not time to panic yet. South Carolina is exceptionally deep in the receiver corps in terms of bodies, but in terms of veteran play, Ellington’s absence leaves Byrd and Nick Jones.
Any of those alternative healers around the Midlands are advised to report to the stadium ASAP.
