With eight newcomers (seven freshmen and transfer, Ty Johnson), there will be lots of glancing to match names, numbers and faces when the Gamecocks play at home.
Michael Carrera will rebound, block shots and stick put-backs. He’ll also act as his own towel boy, sometimes drying wet spots on the floor. He’s the Gamecocks’ heart.
With Ty Johnson out until mid-December and Bruce Ellington playing football, USC won’t have an established point guard early in the season. Duane Notice, Jaylen Shaw and Sindarius Thornwell will get a chance.
What's he doing?
Many fans will wonder why 6-foot-9 freshman Demetrius Henry is shooting from the wings and not pounding inside. Simple – it’s not his game. He’s tall, but he has a great jump shot.
Justin McKie is not his dad, career leading scorer BJ McKie. Don’t expect him to be the lethal points-producer his father was. Justin plays multiple positions, tough defense and scores if needed.
