Dawn Staley continues to add to a banner recruiting class.
Guard Doniyah Cliney, the No. 13 guard in the class and the No. 105 prospect nationwide by prospectsnation.com, committed late Tuesday night to South Carolina, according to sources close to the program. A 6-foot guard who can do a little bit of everything, Cliney hails from Newark, N.J., and Malcolm X. Shabazz High School.
Ebony Wilson, a senior on Staley’s first NCAA tournament team at USC, was also from Shabazz. Cliney is the third member of the next recruiting class, joining Dreher High’s Kaydra Duckett and Bianca Cuevas, a highly rated guard from New York.
The Gamecocks, who play an exhibition game at 7 p.m. on Friday against North Greenville, are hoping to sign six players for next year. They have commitments from three and will welcome two national Top-12 prospects, Jatarie White and Shakayla Thomas, for a visit this weekend.
The early signing period begins on Nov. 13. Duckett, Cuevas, Cliney, White and Thomas are all expected to sign, although White and Thomas have not committed to a school yet.
