1. WHERE ARE WE RUNNIN’?
Mike Davis and Brandon Wilds are banged up, which means it’s up to Shon Carson. He responded last week with the play of the game, and posted his first career 100-yard contest. He gets another chance Saturday, and USC doesn’t have many other options if he doesn’t.
2. THE OVERLOOK HOTEL
Arch-rival Clemson awaits next week, with USC attempting to win its fifth straight game in the rivalry for the first time. Ole Miss and Missouri play Saturday night, and if Ole Miss wins, the Gamecocks win the SEC East. Yet, USC can’t afford to look at those games. Not until it beats Coastal.
3. REMEMBER US?
Coastal Carolina used to be one of USC’s branch campuses. There was some bad blood when CCU became independent. Would Joe Moglia try to use that as motivation for his team?
USC can add to its home winning streak record, and Connor Shaw can become the program’s all-time winningest quarterback. Just have to win.
5. SMALL ONES ARE SWEETER
USC has sometimes had trouble with the in-state FCS schools and has also had its share of blowouts over them. Steve Spurrier has warned of taking these teams too lightly, and it’s doubtful any of his players are ignoring him.
