Same song, different verse – Alaina Coates is once again the SEC Freshman of the Week.
South Carolina’s center won the weekly award for the fourth time this season, although she split it this week with Florida’s Ronni Williams. She has won the award more than any other Gamecock in program history.
Coates led the team in scoring and rebounding in two games last week, averaging 18.5 and 8.5, respectively, despite only playing 19 minutes per game. USC beat Ole Miss and Missouri to vault into undisputed first place in the SEC.
She tied her career-high with 24 points against the Rebels, the first 20-point game by a USC freshman since March 2010, and also had her seventh double-double of the season in the same game. That ranks in a tie for third in the SEC.
Coates also entered the program’s Top 10 in single-season blocks with her 46th swat of the season against the Tigers.
