Chatter has intensified about more USC basketball players leaving the program, much of it surrounding former Christ School (N.C.) grads Lakeem Jackson and Eric Smith.
Jackson is a hot topic since it looks like his poor shooting will land him on the bench after starting the past two seasons. But Jackson’s high school coach, David Gaines, said he has not heard the 6-foot-5 junior from Charlotte talk about leaving in recent conversations.
Smith’s father, Stephen, said his son is staying and has not mentioned any other possible defections from the team. Smith, a 5-foot-11 Mullins native, won praise for his play late in the season and will take over for Bruce Ellington now that’s he trying to play football and basketball.
