An early look at South Carolina's fourth SEC opponent, Georgia. This is the fourth in a series looking at each of South Carolina's eight SEC opponents. Coming Monday: LSU.
... Last year's record: 10-4, 7-1 SEC
... Bowl game last season: Lost in Outback Bowl to Michigan State 33-30
... Head coach: Mark Richt 106-38, 11 years (106-38 career record)
... Series record: Georgia leads 46-16-2
... Coaches All-SEC selections: OLB Jarvis Jones (1st team); DB Bacarri Rambo (1st); QB Aaron Murray (2nd); DL John Jenkins (2nd); WR Malcolm Mitchell (3rd); DL Abry Jones (3rd); ILB Alec Ogletree (3rd); Sanders Commings (2nd)
... Aaron Murray, QB: He set a school record with 35 touchdown passes last year, and most of his receivers are returning for 2012. He has a strong arm, even on the run. Murray made the ESPN All-SEC First Team, but he'll need to cut back on his interceptions. Murray had 14 last year.
... Jarvis Jones, LB: In his first season at Georgia after sitting out following a transfer from Southern Cal, Jones made life miserable for SEC quarterbacks with 13.5 sacks.
... This is the game the Gamecocks have circled on the calendar. The Bulldogs took the SEC East title from USC last year despite losing to the Gamecocks. These two teams will be the preseason favorites to win the East. Georgia lost some of its best play-makers on defense and has to reload, and playing at home should give USC an advantage.
... Georgia returns QB Aaron Murray and a deep WR corps on offense. The Gamecocks have won the last two in the series but have never beaten the Bulldogs three times in a row in the 64-game history. This kicks off a four-game stretch in October that will determine if the Gamecocks are a top 10 team.
