The subterfuge over Marshall Morgan's status only lasted a day into this week.
Mark Richt evidently had a change of heart, announcing on his radio show that Morgan, the team's sophomore place-kicker, would be suspended a second straight game.
"Marshall Morgan will not be kicking in this week's game," Richt said on his radio show Monday night. "So that's a news flash for this show."
Richt has never officially announced a suspension for Morgan, who was arrested for boating under the influence this summer. Richt played coy all preseason and last week leading up to the Clemson game, when Morgan did not kick.
Never miss a local story.
Walk-on Patrick Beless handled the place-kicking duties on Saturday, making all five extra points he attempted, without getting a field goal attempt. (A botched snap ruined what would have been a game-tying field goal attempt.)
A caller on Richt's show asked if they'd be seeing more of Beless, and that's when Richt decided to announce Morgan would be out again.
Beless and Adam Erickson, another walk-on, had a kicking competition leading up to the Clemson game, and Beless won it. He didn't say whether there would be another competition leading up to this week's game, but said he was pleased by Beless' performance.
