ATHENS - In yet another hit to Georgia's defense, reserve linebacker Davin Bellamy was arrested on DUI and speeding charges early Saturday morning, according to the Athens-Clarke County jail log.
The charges are misdemeanors. Bellamy was booked into jail at 5:02 a.m. and posted bond of $2,000 at 6:22 a.m. The arrest was made by Athens-Clarke County police.
This is the second arrest of a Georgia player this week. Defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor was arrested on Tuesday morning on felony assault and family violence, and dismissed a day later shortly after his release from jail. Taylor became the third Georgia defensive player to be dismissed from the team this offseason.
Bellamy's arrest is the seventh for a Georgia player this offseason, although four came at the same time - the arrests for double-dipping scholarship checks. All but Taylor's assault charge have been misdemeanors.
Bellamy redshirted last year as a freshman. He was expected to contribute off the bench this year at outside linebacker and perhaps at defensive end.
Normally a DUI brings an automatic two-game suspension, according to UGA's student-athlete handbook. But in the past head coach Mark Richt has dealt more harshly with a player, depending on the circumstances.
