South Carolina baseball fans knew in their hearts and minds that Carolina Stadium was tops in college baseball.
Now they have an official list that agrees with them. The website called stadiumjourney.com posted its rankings of the best ballparks in college baseball this week, and the home of the Gamecocks topped the list.
The website noted the expanding popularity of college baseball as well as the resources being devoted to the sport by athletics departments across the country. A variety of correspondents visited the ballparks to record their experiences and write their reviews, according to a story by Jason Bartel.
USC coach Chad Holbrook liked receiving the recognition.
“It’s neat for our program, our school, and our fans. As nice as our facility is, we don’t have one of the best venues if our fans aren’t in the seats,” Holbrook said. “We have a great atmosphere in the stadium on game day because it’s packed. We owe a lot of that to our fans showing up and supporting our team. This is great exposure for us, and we’ll certainly share this information with recruits out there.”
Here is what was written about Carolina Stadium on stadiumjourney.com:
“Some places just do college baseball better. Before you walk through the gates and are greeted by two national championship trophies, you’ll be greeted by tailgaters, boiled peanuts, cold beer and general excitement. Baseball season at Carolina Stadium in Columbia, S.C. is second only to football season. And even that is debatable, depending on who you ask.”
