Michael Roth, who starred at South Carolina before beginning his professional baseball career, is headed back to the big leagues.
The Texas Rangers promoted the former Gamecocks All-American from Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.
“I’m really excited about joining the Rangers,” Roth said. “I’m looking forward to becoming a part of this team and helping them any way that I can.”
Roth will join South Carolina standout Sam Dyson in the Rangers' bullpen. Dyson is currently serving as the team's closer.
Roth appeared in 22 MLB games with the Los Angeles Angels in 2013-14, going 2-1 with a 7.79 ERA.
He spent all of last season in the minors, going 9-9 with a 4.85 ERA, before signing with the Rangers this offseason.
Roth was 7-3 with a 2.66 ERA in Triple-A this season before being promoted.
