The South Carolina baseball team remains in a strong position for a high seed in NCAA tournament play with four weekends left in the SEC regular season.
The Gamecocks (32-10), who play SEC leader Alabama this weekend at Carolina Stadium, are No. 5 in the NCAA’s official RPI rankings this week. Those rankings play a significant role in the teams that are being considered for the top eight national seeds, which ensures home games in NCAA play until the College World Series.
Baseball America projects this week that the Gamecocks are on the bubble for a national seed but most likely in. Aaron Fitt writes in his stock report: “We’ll also keep South Carolina in the national seed category based on a robust RPI (No. 5) and our faith in the Gamecocks’ ability to finish strong over the next month.”
In Perfect Game’s NCAA projections this week, Kendall Rogers sees South Carolina as the No. 7 national seed, hosting a regional with Mercer, North Carolina and College of Charleston. He projects Indiana as a potential Super Regional opponent in his bracket.
