After an important SEC series victory over Alabama, the South Carolina baseball team continues to stay in good shape for a national seed in NCAA tournament play with three weekends left in the regular season.
The Gamecocks (34-11), who travel to Georgia this weekend, are No. 6 in the NCAA’s official RPI rankings this week. Those rankings play a significant role when it comes to the teams being considered for the top eight national seeds. Being one ensures home games in NCAA play until the College World Series in Omaha.
Baseball America projects this week that the Gamecocks are on the bubble for a national seed but most likely in. They are considered a lock to host an NCAA regional.
In Perfect Game’s NCAA projections this week, the site lists South Carolina as the No. 4 national seed, hosting a regional with Mercer, Duke and College of Charleston. PG projects TCU as the Gamecocks’ likely Super Regional opponent in the bracket.
