The average fan can see South Carolina freshman quarterback Jake Bentley has been a revelation in his three games since being thrown into the fire.
How good has he been? Potentially one of the best freshmen in the country.
Pro Football Focus, a website that does film analysis and grading, had him rated as the No. 8 freshman in the country by its metric. His rating of 77.8 ranks 0.1 behind Alabama’s Jalen Hurts.
“It’s officially time for Gamecocks fans to get excited about Bentley,” PFF’s Josh Liskiewitz wrote. “He’s started just three games, but has been a superstar in all three. He’s been particularly outstanding on throws at least 10 yards downfield, as he has completed 16 of 24 throws for 238 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions.”
Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver is No. 1, with Clemson’s Dexter Lawrence second and Kentucky running back Benjamin Snell third.
