It’s time to talk some football, so we have compiled a list of the top 20 players South Carolina will face in 2011. We will unveil them each day. There is at least one player from each opponent.
4. KNILE DAVIS
Never miss a local story.
Position: Running back
Hometown: Missouri City, Texas
Size: 6-foot, 220 pounds
Last year: 1,322 yards, 13 touchdowns
Career: 1,485 yards, 17 touchdowns
Scouting report: Quick trivia question: Who led the SEC in rushing last season (non-quarterback division)? It wasn’t Marcus Lattimore. It was Davis, who had more than 1,300 yards and averaged more than 100 yards per game. And he did the bulk of that damage in the last half of the season. Through six games, Davis had 294 rushing yards. That’s quite a finish. In games he started, he gained more than 133 yards per game. He had the fourth-best single season of any Arkansas running back.
Quotable: “If you would have asked me if I was going to rush for 1,000 yards (last) season, I would have definitely told you no. But that was Coach (Bobby) Petrino trying to get all of us (running backs) touches. Toward the end, he went with a different plan, and that is how it worked out.” -- Davis to the New Orleans Times-Picayune
Stats against USC: Davis rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns against the Gamecocks last year. He had 20 yards on four carries in 2009.
Up next: No. 3, Andre Ellington, Clemson running back
