5 PLAYERS TO WATCH
When the freshman defensive end steps on the field, all eyes will turn to No. 7. Assistant head coach for defense Ellis Johnson said the Gamecocks will be creative with Clowney, putting him in a number of spots on the field.
The fifth-year senior quarterback was reinstated Monday after working out with the team during the summer. Coach Steve Spurrier said Garcia has done everything that was asked of him and has undergone “lifestyle” changes.
The sophomore wide receiver/kick returner had to sit out spring practice after deciding to play football and basketball. Coaches hope he can help USC score on special teams for the first time in the Spurrier era. He’ll also get a shot at wide receiver.
The highly touted freshman offensive tackle is recovering from shoulder surgery and won’t be cleared for contact for two weeks. Offensive line coach Shawn Elliott said Shell would be behind but he will get a chance to earn playing time.
The sophomore running back got bigger and stronger during the offseason. Lattimore is a top-five Heisman Trophy candidate in many college football preseason publications. Lattimore says his goal for the season is to do “10 times what I did last season.”
