Sophomore spur Sharrod Golightly will miss the first three games of the season due to a violation of team rules, linebackers coach Kirk Botkin said.
Golightly’s suspension combined with the knee injury that will keep freshman Marcquis Roberts off the field until the middle of October means senior starter DeVonte Holloman will be the only player on the roster with any experience at the position for the first three games.
“That spur spot will be a little hairy until after the first three games,” Botkin said.
Incoming freshman Jordan Diggs has impressed the team’s strength staff and could be the backup at spur in the first three games, Botkin said.
“We have a lot of high hopes he can come along and maybe he’ll help and contribute,” Botkin said.
