Video, recap: Spurrier talks Wofford, more

News, notes and video highlights from Steve Spurrier's weekly press conference, held Tuesday at Williams-Brice Stadium.

... There are two juniors being honored on Senior Day: quarterback Andrew Clifford and offensive lineman Travis Ford.

... Quarterback Connor Shaw (foot sprain) did not practice Monday, might practice Tuesday night. He should be ready to play Saturday, Steve Spurrier said.

... Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney probably won't practice Tuesday but should be ready to play Saturday.

... Spurrier on Shaw's progress: "He's done a lot better since we got back from Florida. He's hanging in there. I wish our protection was a little bit better. That fourth and 5 touchdown to Bruce Ellington was a heck of a play. He had an excellent game. He was one guy that we called out for having a super game last week. Our protection and line play needs to improve, as we all know."

... Spurrier on Wofford: "We're going into the 11th game of our season and we're playing a team with the exact record." Spurrier noted that USC shares the same conference record with the Terriers, which shared its conference championship with two other teams. "6-2 got us third place in the eastern division. Some 6-2s are better than others."

... Spurrier on Wofford: "This is a huge game for us. We've got a chance to win seven at home for the first time ever. ... Wofford with a play or two here could beat us. They're dangerous every time they play anybody. They've had us on the ropes both times we've played them. We're expecting a very similar game. We're going to be ready to play. If they beat us, it won't be because we were screwing around all week."

... Spurrier on what's changed the most since he arrived: "We're winning games we used to lose." He pointed to the recent wins over Arkansas and Tennessee as examples. He also said, "We've got better players and better coaches. The facilities are such now that we can recruit the top players in our state, in Georgia and Florida and so forth."

... Spurrier on playing players: "I certainly believe that college football players believe a little piece of the pie. Until we have to give some money out, it won't happen. I wish we would. I don't know when it's going to happen though."

... Spurrier on the team's goals: "We're after total wins and winning all of them at home. The SEC division and all that is history."

... Spurrier on Akeem Auguste, who played 40 plays last week, the most he's played all year. "For the first time he felt healthy to play. He's had a little bit of everything. Hopefully he can finish up healthy."

... Spurrier on D.J. Swearinger's season: "He's certainly deserving of all-american" consideration.

... Spurrier on the seniors being the winningest class in school history: "Hopefully these guys, the best feeling is still down the road for them. They're trying to set a record that will be tough for the next group to beat."

... Spurrier on being USC's winningest coach after one more win: "Three years ago, it looked like it might take 10 or 12 years to get to 64."
