South Carolina safety D.J. Swearinger has accepted an invitation to play in the 2013 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 26.
Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones is the fourth quarterback to commit to the game, joining Florida State’s E.J. Manuel, N.C. State’s Mike Glennon and Arkansas’ Tyler Wilson.
The Senior Bowl will be played at 4 p.m. at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. It is televised live on NFL Network.
Other SEC players who were invited on Tuesday: Georgia DB Sanders Commings, LSU DE Lavar Edwards, Texas A&M WR Ryan Swope and Alabama TE Michael Williams.
-- The Gamecocks’ 11-2 record matches the school record for wins set last year.
-- The win is South Carolina’s sixth bowl victory in 18 tries and back-to-back bowl wins (2012 Capital One Bowl/2013 Outback Bowl) for the first time since the 2001 and 2002 Outback Bowls (both over Ohio State).
-- Head coach Steve Spurrier is 3-4 in bowl games at South Carolina, the most bowl wins in school history by a Gamecock coach. It is Spurrier’s first career Outback Bowl victory and the third in South Carolina history.
-- The 2012 Carolina senior class has produced 38 wins over the past five seasons (7 in 2009, 9 in 2010, 11 in 2011, 11 in 2012), the most victories in four consecutive years in school history. The previous record was set by last year’s senior class at 34.
