South Carolina junior tight end Rory Anderson has been named to the 2013 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List. Anderson is one of 37 named to the preseason list.
Anderson is penciled as the starter at tight end entering this fall’s camp. He has scored eight touchdowns on 22 receptions, while averaging 20.9 yards per catch in his first two seasons. He collected 14 passes for 271 yards and five touchdowns in 2012.
Given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2013 John Mackey recipient will be presented live on Dec. 12 at the College Football Awards Show on ESPNU.
NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey is considered to be among the best to have played tight end. Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl championship, his commitment to community and his place in history as the first president of the NFLPA.
