... A South Carolina win over Missouri would give the Gamecocks their sixth-win of the season and make them bowl-eligible for the 10th-straight season. It would also keep the Gamecocks from losing back-to-back games for just the second time since the end of the 2010 season. They lost back-to-back road games at No. 9 LSU and No. 3 Florida last season. A victory keeps the Gamecocks in the SEC East race.

... Missouri is seeking its first 8-0 start since Dan Devine-coached 11-0 team in 1960. The Tigers have vaulted 20 places in the poll the last two weeks with consecutive wins over Top 25 teams for the first time since 1976. Beating No. 5 Georgia on the road was the signature win of coach Gary Pinkel's 13 seasons, followed by a convincing win at home over No. 22 Florida last week. South Carolina is the Tigers' third straight Top 25 opponent, but is coming off a 23-21 loss at Tennessee.

South Carolina defense vs. QB Maty Mauk & Co. Last week's 36-point total was Missouri's season low, and it was accomplished against one of the nation's top defenses. A trio of running backs can lessen Mauk's responsibility – Russell Hansbrough (391 yards, 7.5-yard average), Henry Josey (358, 5.5) and Marcus Murphy (350, 8.8). The Gamecocks will need more offensive production. They managed 15 yards in the fourth quarter last week after QB Connor Shaw sprained his left knee.

Dylan Thompson is poised to start at QB in place of Shaw, who may need more recovery time. His TD pass to Bruce Ellington with 11 seconds to go decided a 33-28 Outback Bowl win over Michigan in January. Shaw threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns last year against Missouri.

QB MATY MAUK: The freshman threw for 295 yards and one touchdown on 18-of-36 passing in his first career start in the win over Florida.

WR L’DAMIAN WASHINGTON: The senior has keyed an explosive offense with 32 catches for 539 yards, a 16.8-yard average, and seven touchdowns.

DE MICHAEL SAM: The senior has dominated this season with an SEC-leading nine sacks to go with 27 tackles, 13 of them for loss.

LB ANDREW WILSON: The senior leads the team with 50 tackles, something the big hitter also did in the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

... A season-high sellout crowd of 67,124 saw the 36-17 win over No. 22 Florida.

... Missouri has recorded a turnover in 37 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the country. The Tigers have forced 18 turnovers this season, which includes 14 interceptions, a figure that ranks No. 1 nationally.

... Missouri rolled up 500 yards of total offense on Florida, which had led the SEC in total defense.

... Missouri’s two wins against the Gamecocks came in the 1979 Hall of Fame Bowl and the 2005 Independence Bowl.

... In seven games, the Tigers have averaged 44.3 points on 513.4 yards per game.
