JUST THE FACTS
A South Carolina win over Florida would ...
... Extend the Gamecocks’ home winning streak to 16 games, establishing a new school record. The current 15-game home winning streak matches the mark set from 1978-80. The 15-game home winning streak is also the longest current home winning streak in the country.
... Be the 39th Gamecock win in a four-year period, establishing a new school record. The current four-year win total of 38 matches the mark set by last year’s senior class.
... Give Connor Shaw his 24th career win as a starting quarterback, tying the school record currently held by Todd Ellis. Shaw is 23-5 as a starter for the Garnet & Black. Ellis was 24-16-3 as the starting signal-caller.
... Give the Gamecocks six SEC wins for the third-straight season.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
... South Carolina is fighting to stay in the hunt for the SEC East. The Gamecocks have to win and look for losses from Georgia and Missouri. If that happens, South Carolina would head to the Georgia Dome in December. Florida, 11-2 a year ago, is struggling to become bowl eligible. A loss to the Gamecocks would mean the Gators would have to defeat Georgia Southern and No. 2 Florida State or miss the postseason for the first time since 1990 when they weren't eligible because of NCAA issues.
... QB Connor Shaw vs. Florida's defense. Shaw has put together a stellar senior year with 18 touchdown passes against just one interception. Shaw is also the Gamecocks second leading rusher with 484 yards and three TDs. He has not seen a defense, though, like the Gators, who lead the SEC in overall defense and passing defense and are second in the league against the rush.
GATORS TO WATCH
... QB TYLER MURPHY: The junior has completed 112-of-185 passes for 1,216 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions. His status is in doubt, however, with a shoulder injury.
... WR SOLOMON PATTON: The senior has caught 34 passes for 481 yards and four touchdowns and ranks as the top kickoff return man with a 100-yard touchdown return.
... DE DANTE FOWLER: The sophomore has piled up 35 tackles, 8.5 for loss, with 3.5 sacks, seven quarterback hurries and three forced fumbles.
... CB VERNON HARGREAVES: The freshman leads the team with three interceptions and eight pass breakups.
... After jumping to a 4-1 start and a Top 25 ranking, the Gators have plummeted after four straight losses to LSU, Missouri, Georgia and Vanderbilt.
... Florida lost to Vanderbilt for the first time since 1988.
... The Gators are averaging 20.6 points per game.
... Opponents have outscored Florida 72-29 in the first quarter this season.
... The Gators have lost 10 players to season-ending injuries, including quarterback Jeff Driskel and defensive tackle Dominique Easley.
... Florida ranks first in the SEC in total defense (278.8 yards per game) and second in scoring defense (19.0 points per game).
