South Carolina makes the most of its football practice accommodations at Celebration High School.
The Gamecocks spread out across three fields for positional drills and workouts Friday. The offense stayed on the school’s main practice field. The defense headed to the outfield of the baseball field to work out. Special teams coordinator Joe Robinson took the kickers over to Celebration High’s football stadium.
Defensive line coach Deke Adams said the setup and routine are similar to USC’s practices in Columbia, though he was missing being able to use such equipment as tackling sleds.
“We have to work around some things, but as far as our philosophy and the way I run my drills, everything is the same,” Adams said. “We stay as close to normal as possible.”
After practice, players head to the basketball court for a 24-station weight room that is constructed – and deconstructed – by strength and conditioning coach Joe Connolly, his staff, trainers, nutritionists, equipment staffers and even police offers.
Lunch is even served inside a large, on-site tent. Then the Gamecocks call it a day.
“We practice, we run, we lift, we shower, we eat and we’re done,” Connolly said. “It’s very efficient.”
