The Gamecocks held their eighth practice of the spring Friday, a two-hour workout in the rain. There was no media availability afterward.
-- Quarterbacks Dylan Thompson and Perry Orth took almost all the snaps in the 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills at the end of the session. Brendan Nosovitch took one snap in 7-on-7s, and he ran the ball two of his three times at QB in 11-on-11s. Connor Mitch watched from the sideline and did not take a snap.
-- Thompson was the sharpest of the group even in the wet conditions. He connected with wide receiver Shamier Jeffery and tight end Jerell Adams in the end zone from 20 yards out.
-- Linebacker Larenz Bryant popped running back David Williams during 11-on-11s, which prompted excitement from the defense. There were no interceptions in 7-on-7s and 11-on-11s, though there were some passes broken up.
-- Senior wide receiver Damiere Byrd again practiced in a limited capacity. He did not participate in any contact drills but did catch a few punts and kickoffs.
-- Wide receivers Jody Fuller (knee) and Kane Whitehurst (foot) and defensive end Devin Washington (hand) sat out the practice. Also out were fullbacks Connor McLaurin (foot) and Jordan Diaz (knee).
-- The team plans to hold a 10 a.m. scrimmage at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday. It is open to the public.
