... This marks the beginning of the 121st season of intercollegiate football at South Carolina.

... South Carolina is 80-36-4 (.683) in 120 season openers. The Gamecocks have won 14 consecutive season-opening games, dating back to the 2000 season. The school record for consecutive season-opening wins is 19, set from 1920-1938.

... Head coach Steve Spurrier is 23-1 all-time in season openers as a collegiate head coach.

... The Gamecocks are putting their school record 18-game home winning streak, the longest current streak in the country, on the line. They are also 34-3 in their last 37 home contests.

... Spurrier is looking for his 200th win as an SEC coach. He logged 122 wins at Florida from 1990-2001, and has won a school record 77 games at South Carolina.

... Since Spurrier took over in 2005, USC has played 11 Thursday night ESPN contests.

... 9.4 ... Texas A&M led the SEC in passing last year with 353.3 yards per game, which is impressive and a bit imposing for a South Carolina team that will start a true freshmen at cornerback and has plenty more youth on the defensive back depth chart. The specific problem could be the Aggies’ big-play ability in the passing game. Texas A&M was second in the SEC with 9.4 yards per passing attempt. Quarterback Johnny Manziel is gone, but wide receivers Ricky Seals-Jones (6-5) and Malcome Kennedy (6-0) are still there.
