Just the facts
... A USC win would extend the Gamecocks’ bowl winning streak to a school-record four. They also won three straight bowl games from 1995-2002.
... A USC win would give the Gamecocks a winning record for a school-record seventh consecutive season and at least a .500 record for a school-record 11th consecutive season.
... The Duck Commander Independence Bowl marks USC’s 20th bowl appearance. The Gamecocks are 7-12 all-time in bowl games.
... This will mark the 38th time the Hurricanes have competed in a bowl game. The Hurricanes own a 19-18 record in them.
Players to watch
... SOUTH CAROLINA: Junior tailback Mike Davis has rushed 186 times for 927 yards and a team-high nine rushing scores. He is the 16th player in school history to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a career. Davis needs 73 yards to become a 1,000-yard rusher this season. If that happens, he would become the second player in school history to record more than one 1,000-yard rushing season, joining the great George Rogers, who had three.
... MIAMI: Junior running back Duke Johnson is Miami’s all-time leading rusher with 3,387 yards. He has rushed for 1,520 yards on the year, which ranks second all-time for a single season. He is currently 233 yards shy of setting the program’s single season rushing standard (Willis McGahee, 1,753, 2002).
