A trip to Nashville and home by New Years? There could be worse fates that befall the South Carolina football team.
That’s a path suggested by SBNation’s set of extremely early bowl projections, which send USC to a Music City Bowl meeting Dec. 30 with Iowa.
The Gamecocks have never played in that bowl before, but they will open the season nearby against Vanderbilt. Making that bowl would likely mean the Gamecocks finished as at least the eighth-best team in the SEC.
Making a bowl at all would be a big step for first-year coach Will Muschamp following a 3-9 record in 2015. USC has only played Iowa once, a 31-10 loss in the 2009 Outback Bowl.
