At least one former South Carolina football player expects to see quarterback Stephen Garcia back on the field in the fall.
Wide receiver Tori Gurley, who left school early in hopes of being drafted in this week’s NFL Draft, worked out with Garcia last week and said the suspended quarterback looked good.
"Oh yeah, he’ll be back," Gurley said.
Garcia was suspended indefinitely by athletics director Eric Hyman. Head coach Steve Spurrier said last week that a decision on Garcia’s future would be made during the summer. Spurrier indicated then that Garcia will have the chance to rejoin the team for his senior year by meeting certain conditions.
"He has to walk that very straight line," Gurley said. "He’s doing well. He’s losing weight. He’s getting in shape.
He’s just doing everything the coaches want him to do to get the suspension lifted."
Garcia has thrown with other current players as well, Gurley said. Standout wide receiver Alshon Jeffery tweeted last week that he and Garcia were working out together.
Garcia "looked pretty good," Gurley said.
