Good morning and welcome to game week, and a short game week at that.
If you’re here, you know all the basics already.
Never miss a local story.
South Carolina opens the season Thursday with its highest preseason rank in history. The No. 9 Gamecocks take on unranked but highly motivated Vanderbilt in Memorial Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., and then it’s away we go on what may be the most anticipated season in school history.
As always we will provide you the absolute best Gamecock coverage available here and in The State newspaper, and I wanted to tell you a little about that coverage this morning. In addition to our daily newspaper presence, we’re going to add some online elements this season.
Throughout the year, we will talk to experts in the gaming industry to get the Las Vegas perspective on the Gamecocks and the SEC. I hope it will be as fascinating to you as it is to me. Here is the first installment of that feature..
We also will get a scout’s take every week on how the NFL-bound Gamecocks look at what matchups the pro evaluators will be looking at in each week’s game.
On gamedays, we’re also adding a new storytelling element by using Storify, which will allow us to bring you what will essentially be a running game story using Twitter posts and pictures from our staff and from fans, statistics and running commentary and analysis from the stadium. We know that, for many of you, the big game has become a two-screen experience – your TV plus a computer or tablet that supplements the broadcast. There will be no need to go anywhere else for your second screen than us this season.
We’re also adding a daily element with links and explanations of stories from around the conference. We want to be a one-stop shop for you in the mornings, so by coming to GoGamecocks.com, you know you will get the best South Carolina coverage plus all you need to know about the SEC news of the day and how it might affect the Gamecocks. The links package will start Tuesday and be posted by 10 a.m. every morning.
Our goal, as always, is to give you the most comprehensive view of the program possible, and I think all of these additions will help do that. We will continue our weekly chat sessions and the Cock and Bull Show as well. Please let us know if you have additional ideas about how we can make your experience here and in the newspaper better.
