INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – It’s Jadeveon Clowney Day at the NFL Combine.
Or, if you’re the rest of the world, it’s probably Michael Sam Day. In short, it’s going to be a wild ride at Lucas Oil Stadium today. Both Clowney, the former South Carolina defensive end who could be the No. 1 overall selection in May, and Sam, who is expected to become the first openly gay player in the NFL in May, both are expected to speak to the media today. And it probably will be the top two media crowds of the event, topping even yesterday’s Johnny Manziel scrum.
Clowney’s official measurements came in early Saturday morning – 6 feet, 5¼ inches and 266 pounds. His arm span measured 34½ inches, making him a virtual clone of New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, who measured 6-foot-5, 270 pounds and had a 34¾-inch wing span.
Pierre-Paul vaulted up draft boards based on those measurements and his freaky athleticism alone. Clowney won’t get a chance to show off his on-field work until Monday. Today will be about answering questions – from media members and team officials.
Many of those questions will be about his work ethic. We have already asked a ton of NFL people those questions this week, and we’ll have a story up today with those answers. Not to mention plenty more from Indianapolis so stick around.
